A rather murky shot due to the conditions yesterday with a thick mist throughout most of the day, but for those of you that have not yet done a pelagic trip into the waters south-west of Cape Point, this is what awaits you out there.
Large numbers of birds are attracted to these trawlers and our main aim for the day is to find one of these and spent some time in her wake to see what species we can find. This obviously varies from day to day, but this foto gives a reasonable impression of the number of birds you can potentially see out there.
The time spent in the wake of this trawler yesterday netted: Shy, Black-browed and Atlantic and Indian Yellow nosed Albatrosses, Northern Giant, White-chinned and Pintado Petrels, Wilsons and European Storm Petrels, Great and Sooty Sheerwaters, Subantarctic, Arctic and Pomarine Skua's, Cape Gannet, Sabines Gulls and Common and Arctic Terns. Not a bad litle haul for just this one spot.
Nou jullie zullen begrijpen dat onze verwachtingen voor de trip die wij volgende week gepland hebben, zeer hoog zijn.
